Background

The Victorian Alpaca Colourbration was first established in 2004 to provide breeders the opportunity to showcase their coloured animals and be judged against their colour type.  The first show was held at Lancefield in 2004 with 170 animals exhibited. 

Due to its popularity, the Colourbration event soon outgrew the Lancefield venue and in 2007 moved to Bendigo to the newly completed Exhibition Centre at the Prince of Wales Showgrounds, Holmes Road, Bendigo (See Map on our Location page).

Highlights for 2009 Show

The Victorian Alpaca Colourbration Carnival Show & Sale 2009 achieved the following:

  •  The "Largest COLOURED  Alpaca Show in Australia"
  •  The "3rd Largest Alpaca Show in Australia"
  • 443 animal entries (all coloured shows represented) (23% increase on 2008 entries)
  • 139 fleece entries (all coloured shows represented) (44.5% increse on 2008 entries
  • 38 animals for sale in the Sales Section
  • 9 new breeders registerd for the New Breeder Encouragement Award
  • Junior Breeders - Grace Hardie (Hardie Park Alpacas) & Brioude Synnot (Baarrooka Breeze); both aged 11 years
  • Trade displays and craft demonstrations

 Catholic College Bendigo Joins Aplaca Colourbration

  Catholic College Bendigo

Students from the Catholic College Bendigo will be joining the 2009 Victorian Alpaca Colourbration Carnival Show & Sale and will have the opportunity to experience a full range of roles and responsibilities associated with showing and promotional aspects of breeding alpacas - experiences that cannot be recreated in the classroom.

Students will also have the opportunity to assist a number of larger alpaca studs (breeders showing 10-25 alpacas) where they will get hands on experience in preparing and showing alpacas.  Each stud has agreed to mentor the students to ensure they receive maximum practical experience and knowledge in preparing and showing. 

 

Supporting Rural Payback Time

Rural Payback Time

The 2009 Victorian Alpaca Colourbration Carnival is a supporting partner for Rural Payback Time.  All proceeds from the coin donation public entry will go to Rural Payback Time in support of farmers during drought and tough times.

Alpacas 2Victorian Alpaca Colourbration 2009 will offer participants a wide range of opportunities to market and promote their products and/or services, whether it is directly related to alpacas or not.  Alpaca breeders will have a multitude of promotional opportunities to choose from.

For, newcomers to the alpaca industry, or  anyone considering a ‘Tree Change', the Victorian Alpaca Colourbration Carnival 2009 offers an excellent opportunity to obtain a of wealth of information and meet breeders in the one place.  Alpaca Colourbration would be a excellent starting point for anyone seeking information on the alpaca industry, studs, alpaca genetics, alpaca products and services; or simply' to 'pat a paca'.   

 

Showing Opportunities

Compete in Victoria's largest regional alpaca show offering a full complement of show classes for both huacaya and suri alpacas.  (Entries close 24 July 2009)

Age classes in each colour show will include: Junior 6 to under 12 months Female, Junior 6 to under 12 months Male, Intermediate 12 to under 18 months Female, Intermediate 12 to under 18 months Male, Adult 18 months to under 30 months Female, Adult 18 months to under 30 months Male, Senior 30 months and over Female, Senior 30 months and over Male, Supreme.

Fancy Suri Classes.  Three (3) special combined female and male Fancy Suri Classes, according to age group, will also be offered.

Best New Breeders Award.  Eligibility - Exhibitors who joined the Australian Alpaca Association within 5 years prior to Alpaca Colourbration (ie: 2004-2009).

 

Sale Opportunities

Pen sales during the event for animals for sale.

1.   Sale Catalogue (hardcopy book) distributed 3-4 weeks prior to event (VIC, NSW, SA & TAS).  (Bookings close 26 June 2009)

2.   Sale Catalogue (on-line).  Animals advertised from day information is downloaded onto the site.  (On-going benefits to participants.  Refer to Sale Catalogue - Terms & Condtions (available in Forms Section).

 

Stud Male Service Opportunity

1.   Stud Males available for stud service can be listed in a special segment of the event's Sale Catalogue (hardcopy catalogue).  (Bookings close 26 June 2009)

2.   Stud Males available for stud service (on-line).   Animals advertised from the day the information is downloaded onto the site.  (On-going benefits to participant.  Refer to Sale Catalogue - Terms & Conditions (available in Forms Section).

 

Sponsorship Opportunities

Sponsor a show and receive naming rights to that show and other added benefits.  (The earlier you sponsor a show the more benefits you receive)

Advertising available in Sale Catalogue (hardcopy book).  (Bookings close 26 June 2009).

Multi Media Slide Show Display Opportunity

‘Living with Alapcas' - no effort promotional slide show display which will run continuously over the 2 day event.  An opportunity to show other aspects of the alpaca industry and living with alpacas in Australia.   (Bookings Close 124 July 2009)
